Two Codes took out the 1996 Launceston Cup, defeating Standby Thunder by two lengths to pick up the $12,000 first prize over the 522 metres trip. Zoom Fox, the 1995 winner, could only finish sixth.

Fond Regards defeated Bengina by just over four lengths with track specialist Stately Bird third in the 2000 National Derby, run over 520 metres at Wentworth Park. The Dave Irwin-trained greyhound ran 30.10 to set a new race record, taking 23/100ths off the previous best set by Hahn Bale in 1999. Fond Regards also set a new second sectional record of 13.89.
