‘Travel Factor Shouldn’t be Underestimated’: Medhurst

Ted Medhurst, trainer of Saturday night’s Group 1 Sky Racing Topgun winner Buckle Up Wes, says any Tasmanian greyhound that can win a group race on the mainland deserves plenty of kudos.

Buckle Up Wes flew to Melbourne the day before the Topgun, a challenge that shouldn’t be downplayed, his trainer insists.

“Tassie greyhounds have to put up with a fair bit when competing on the mainland because of the travel involved,” Medhurst said.

“The dogs have to be at the airport 90 minutes before the flight takes off and it’s a one hour flight to Melbourne.”
