Security Star set a new track record time of 20.03 for the 350 metres trip at Kempsey in 2005.

The inaugural National Sprint Championship was run over 500 yards at Harold Park in 1965. The event was taken out by NSW representative Best Sun, trained by Eddie Batiste, who downed fellow NSW sprinters Satyr Rocket and Chariot Charm. The closest interstate runner was Queenslander He’s Lightning, with Billy Vee (sixth) the first Victorian across the line.
