Beau Palomino won the 1972 Hobart Thousand, the last to be run over 540 yards (494 metres) before the distance was changed to 500 metres.

Arvo’s Junior won the 2004 Roy Maidment Memorial, run over 715 metres at Sandown Park, in a race record 42.10, clipping a substantial 34/100ths off the previous best, set by Jedi Lightsabre two years earlier.
